We stand in solidarity with all people taking action against police brutality and all who face it. It cannot be stated enough that police target economically and racially marginalized populations, as well as queer and immigrant communities. Under the guise of law and order, police departments throughout the United States use intimidation and violence in order to maintain the inhumane stratification of society. As an anti-war organization we recognize the police as the domestic arm of the same militarized state that brutalizes people everyday in Iraq and Afghanistan. Any anti-war stance therefore requires an understanding of the police as a brutal and repressive force and also requires direct solidarity with those most affected by police violence. As white radicals we must acknowledge that any collaboration with the MPD, SPPD, and the local Sheriff’s departments in our organizing is a violation of that solidarity, betraying the basic principles of peace, justice, and anti-racism. Oppose state violence in all its forms—stop brutality, stop the war.
